The Scotty is coming along...

Well, I finished painting, 2 coats, of Country White on the interior walls & ceiling. Saturday I will be painting the cabinet doors & drawer fronts in a turquoise...Gary painted the Coppertone icebox & stove in a turquoise (Blue ocean breeze by Krylon) with black trim...it looks awesome!

I'll post pictures this weekend after we re-install the stove & ice box.

The new electrical has been installed so we need to install the wall lights next.

Gary got the running lights all hooked up and working,,,That's my man!

Everyday we make a little progress and the Scotty should be ready in 2 weeks!

This was the origional paint scheme in the Scotty. Somewhere along the way someone painted the whole interior powder blue... As much as I would like to re-create the origional paint, I think I will stick with a clean cream color allowing me the versatility of changing the interior decorations with out having to be locked into a limited paint color.

Ok, what is it about the Hub's & me?...that we always have to disassemble things???? Aacckk!

I have less then 24 days to be ready for my Sisters on the Fly camping trip & here we go again, tearing apart the 2nd trailer...is it to much coffee or just a natural curiosity or do we just love to 'stress ourselves out',,,lol!

Anyhow, here we go again, creating more work when we only have a small time frame to get the Scotty ready.... Do feel free to put on your 'grubbies' & come help! lol!

Bringing the Scotty Home...

Ok, so here is a picture of us bringing our little Serro Scotty home last week.

We have made several "Home Desperate"(Depot) runs and today was no different...today we brought home flooring, window & door screen fabric, plexi glass, nuts, boltz, paint, curtain rods & other 'stuff'' to work on our little trailer.

My "Mother's Day" gift will be working all day on Mother's Day on the trailer! lol!

After all I only have 26 days to get the trailer ready for my first outting of the year with some of my 'Sisters on the Fly' girlfriends.

1963 Serro Scotty

'Gracie's Victorian Rose' now has a little sister....

Ok, for those of you who know us, know that we are avid collectors,,,,and I do mean avid! From mixers and resin grapes to kitties...heeheehee....

While Gracie~girl is truly a labor of love and is moving along quite well in her restorations, she is still a work in progress...but my first Sisters on the Fly outing is less then 4 weeks away and she will barely be ready so we decided that since we were planning on a 2nd trailer, now would be as good a time as any to find one,,,and find one we did!

Our new baby is a 1963 Serro Scotty Sportsman 15' trailer. The body is in really good shape considering her age and just needs a good coat of interior paint, new cushions, faucet, door and flooring. Oh and the best part...it has a small closet that works perfect for a "Scotty Potty" lol!

So while I am cleaning, painting and sewing curtains & cushion covers like a mad women, Gary will be repairing the front door, lights and a window.

My next trip will be to the Camping supply store to buy a portable potty....hmmm wonder if Sears still carries them!

We will be bringing her home in a few days, by then we should be able to find the perfect name for her.

Gary has already said he wants one more trailer, one from the 1940's then we will have a 40's, 50's & 60's collection going...see I told you we are avid collectors... then the only dilemma will be which trailer to use on an outing! lol!

Wood Rot from water damage.

Here is one of the many reasons why we are re-building the trailer frame....major wood rot...But now it's at a point where the new frame supports can be added.

Gary is having to cut the wood down because all the sizing does not match today's sized wood. Plus he is having to re-create joints and supports...who knows, this little trailer may be around for another 50 years!

Ok, someday she will look like one of these cuties,,,but for now, she is as naked as a Jay Bird!Gary has started cutting out the wood for the new frame and support joints...unfortunately he had to work today so he could not go out to the "Man Cave" and play this morning, but he gets off early and I suspect he will be out there, with the heater on, his favorite C&W radio station blasting and having fun with his tools.

"Give a man a hammer and saw & he will grouse about having to work on a project...give him some power tools and he will go play in the workshop all day!" lol!

Actually the framing should go up quite fast, then it's time to order assorted pieces, trims & what ever that is not worth putting back into the trailer. We found a great source to order parts from. It's a company in Oregon, called Interstate Metal Fabricators Inc.

I just hope he can remember how to put her back together! lol!

"Course, tonight he is popping Advil and icing his knee for the better part of the evening...seems he was inside of what is left my trailer and while leaning forward to work on a piece of wood it gave way and he fell forward & right out of the trailer...hmmm, does that make him the male version of "Lucy"...????? lol!

The trailer is now ready for the new framing, but first Gary has to do some work on the chassis and floor.

Little by little it will come together.

Well as you can see, progress has been made on the de-construction of GVR....

Gary is going to have to do some bracing of the trailer walls next before he can go any further.

It is amazing but not surprising how much wood rot there is, but considering it's age and most likely having been stored outside with out any protection from the elements, It's a wonder that any of these little "mobile abodes" still stand.

I have been so obsessed with these cuties that I find myself driving around the farmlands & alleyways out here, in search of another. Actually I have seen several parked off the sides of old barns....I am thinking of snagging a girlfriend, Heather, who also is on a quest for "her own perfect little trailer", and go leave notes on the mailboxes at the places where I have seen vintage trailers parked. Who knows, we just might get lucky & find a lil' sister for GVR and a trailer for Heather. Keeping our fingers & eyes crossed....

OK, rule #1...Girls, do not leave your husbands unattended with your trailers in the Man Cave or else this is what could happen to your trailer! lol!

Oh well, as we say..."Show No Fear!".

We found evidence of fire damage as well as a lot more wood rot then we expected....but everything is fixable....so Gracie~girl is going to get one heck of a "plastic Surgery"....but when all is said & done, she will look beautiful.

We discovered some shoddy workmanship on the trailer...I am beginning to wonder if my trailer was built on a Friday afternoon around 3;30PM...lol! Times have not changed much....some people do/did not take pride in their workmanship.

Well, I can hardly wait to see what my dear husband will do next...."Show No Fear!".

Oh my Word! What a day, tween the rain, snow, more rain, and lots of wind gusts....Gary was able to work on the trailer a bit more.....hmm, work on or de-construct?

I have to laugh (I Think), who would have thought that there was so much rot underneath.

Oh Duh! what was I thinking...a 50 year old trailer???

All I can say is Thank Goodness (A) Gary loves me.... & (B) Gary likes a challenge....

Wowzer, do we have our work cut out for us....

OOPS! We've got water damage....

Well we do have some water damage to the front & rear of the trailer as well as the front door which is typical of these old trailers..

No big deal....we found a great Wood shop over in Spokane Valley that carries all sorts of wonderful woods and trims etc... We found the perfect 1/8" wood sheeting for the trailer walls, It sells for $20.99 a 4x8 sheet. Oak would be about half the price but Oak just doesn't have "the look" we are going for. So now to bite the bullet and hack up a hairball and buy 10 sheets which should be plenty enough for all the walls, ceiling, door and cabinet fronts.

I also bought some awesome drawer pulls. I am still looking for the right knobs for the cabinets.

I haven't had a chance to work on the curtains yet,,,been busy sewing aprons for swaps and finishing up some handwork...but we'll be out there getting busy as soon as the rains pass.

Pretty scary huh!

And So It Begins.... Demolition Day!

It was a rainy day, perfect for demolition, and so the fun begins.

Hubs & I played in the Man Cave.

*Give a man a hammer & he will pound away for a day...

*Give him a 'Sawsall" & he will cut everything up....lol!

I'm thinking he had more fun then I did, tearing the trailer apart.

"Show No FEAR" and he certainly didn't & had fun in the process!

I love the windows on the door. We will have to replace the wood on the door due to the water damage near the bottom.

The sink has seen better days and as much as I love the formica print...it has to go. It has way to much damage especially around the stove were there is a lot of scorching.

The closet is roomy and there is a little storage shelf on the side of the closet. Perfect for toiletries.

As for those curtains,,,they are soooo history! lol!
